Mountain excursion in Pakistan

From majestic mountains to serene Moghul architecture, from bustling bazaars to the remains of ancient cities, and from Sufi shrines to British era railway lines, Pakistan’s diverse attraction offers a wealth of adventure and culture.

Gilgit–Baltistan formerly known as Northern areas is perhaps the most spectacular region of Pakistan in terms of its geography and scenic beauty, lying under great mountain ranges - Karakoram, Hindukush and Himalayas. The whole region is like a paradise for mountaineers, explorers, adventurers and trekkers. The landscapes are like a dream of poets and nature lovers. Exciting mountain trails and simple hospitable people of the region have rich cultural heritage and variety of rare fauna and flora.

In this tour we will cover all the best destinations of the mountian region of Pakistan such as Fairy Meadows at Nanga Parbat base camp, Skardu and surroundings, the famous Hunza valley and beautiful high passes Babusar and Deosai. The following program is the approximate itinerary which can be slightly changed by the request. Those who are not ready to hike can skip Feary Meadows and spend more days in Hunza. We can also add Shandor pass to the program alongside with Kalash valley.

Trip itinerary

 

Duration: 11 days

Arrival – Islamabad

Departure – Islamabad

 

Day 01 – Arrival at Islamabad airport. The capital city of Pakistan.

Checking into your hotel. You will be able to take a short tour of Islamabad city with your guide – This will depend on your flight arrival timing.

  • Visit Faisal Mosque

  • Lok virsa Museum  an anthropological museum of ethnicities inhabitiing Pakistan.

  • Islamabad Monument

  • Monal View Point

  • Welcoming dinner at one of fantastic restaurants on Jinnah avenue or Jinnah Super Market. 

Overnight at 3 star hotel in Islamabad

 

Day 02 - Karakoram Highway – Chilas (10 hrs drive)

  • Early morning drive in a private car to join the famous Karakoram Highway, sneaking through some of the Great Mountain Ranges of the world.

Karakoram Highway (KKH)- The development found their greatest physical manifestation with the construction of KKH, built along the path of the caravan routes of the Silk Road from China to Pakistan. A remarkable engineering achievement! It is said to be the highest paved international road. Due to its elevation and difficult conditions in which it was constructed, it is also referred as the "Eighth Wonder of the World”.

  • Lunch in Balakot

  • Crossing Babusar high pass on 4173 m elevation

Overnight in Shangrila Hotel in Chilas.
 

Day03- Chilas – Fairy Meadows/Nanga Parbat – 8126m

  • Continue drive to Raikot bride (1 hr), 

  • Shift to 4WD by which we drive off road to Tato village  for 1hour. Lunch in Tato.

  • Fear hours hike from Tato to Fairy Meadows. (3/4hrs)

  • Horse riding is available here; those are not willing to hike can ride horse to Fairy Meadows.

Fairy Meadow is lush green meadows situated in the foot of impressive Nanga Parbat, the western anchor of Himalayan mountain range. The meadow presents spectacular views around including Nanga Parbat- the 2nd highest peak in Pakistan and 9th in the world ranking.

Overnight in Feary Meadows cottages.

Day04 – Explore Fairy Meadows

  • At Fairy Meadows you will be able to hike or ride a horse to visit Beyal camp - a view  point on Nanga Parbat . 

  • Then you can also continue hiking to Nanga Parbat Base camp or you can return from Beyal.

  • Those who prefer a quite relaxing day can stay at the meadow and get mesmerized by the unparallel views.

Overnight in the same cottages.

Day05 - Fairy Meadows – Skardu (8-9 hrs)

  • Trek back to Tato, then by 4WD to Jhel village from where we drive through fantastic Deaosai plateau to Skardu (2500 m elevation).

  • Check in Hotel & rest.

PTDC Motel OR equivalent standard.

Day 06 – Explore Skardu

A full day to explore Skardu and places around.

  • Shigar valley & Shigar Fort

  •  Katchura Lake

  • Satpara Lake.

Day07 Skardu

Rest day after the intencities of the previous days. Skardu is the perfect place to stop for 2 nights. It's never hot, even in summer. It has always cool and fry fresh air waving from the mountains around.

Day08 - Skardu – Hunza

  • Continue on Karakoram Highway to Karimabad – gorgeous Hunza valley, stopping at Rakaposhi view en route. The road goes along the beautifal holy Indus river

  • By midday we reach Karimabad town – surrounded with several high mountains of 7000m, including Ultar Sar, Hunza peak, Lady's Finger, Diran, and Golden peak.

  • Visit of Baltit Fort – A 700 years old fort was once used as residence of Mir of Hunza.

Darbar Hunza hotel or equivalent.

Day09 –Around Hunza

Full day to explore Upper Hunza

  • Visit of Gulmit, passing long Attabad lake en route.

  • Famous Husseinisuspension bridge.

  • Borit Lake

  • Pasu glacier & Pasu valley

In the afternoon we return to Karimabad and visit Altit Fort, another ancient. After a brief visit we continue upward to Duikar village – situated high above Hunza valley. It’s where one experiences sweeping view of the Hunza valley and also a finest place to catch the glimpse of sunset and sun rise on snow peaks.

Day10-Hunza

Besham (10 - 12 hours)

Ralaxed day to walk around Hunza handicraft shops at Karimabad bazar. We can also do an easy hike on Ondra Poyga stairs near Gulmit.

  • Day11 - Hunza - Islamabad

  • 12 hours drive back by KKH over Babusar pass to Islamabad

Overnight in Islamabad.

Day 12. Departure from Islamabd International airport
